March 27-April 2 : Our NICU Stay

If you are familiar with the NICU life, my heart breaks for you and your little. I never expected to be part of the lucky few, let alone a NICU mom. Though I had a complicated pregnancy, the end of my last trimester seemed to have taken a turn for the better. My doctor said I could deliver at the local hospital and wouldn't need a NICU. I have since then learned my lesson and will ALWAYS deliver at a hospital that has a NICU on site. Having to watch my daughter be taken from me, only a few hours after birth, and covered in wires and transported to a different hospital left me with a hole nothing could fill. This was the first time we had been apart in 9 months. My stomach was literally empty, and my heart broken. But you pick your self up and get  your life together in order to survive through the hard times. I had to, for Adaline. Each day I got to see that perfect chubby face, that I dreamt about for months, made the lonely nights a little easier. Watching those machines feed her, and keep her warm and alive is such a bitter sweet feeling. To say I was jealous is an understatement. But I was also thankful. Thankful she was having the best care. The best nurses. It was refreshing to see doctors work hard to protect her life. I only wish we had the same experience about her life while it was in my tummy. She grew stronger every day. Her body fought hard to heal and fix all her "issues". She knew I needed her.

Coming Home

Every day I prayed and waited to hear those words " She's going home". And we were only there for a week. You mamas and dads with babies there for months are a special kind of strong. During that week, Adaline taught me what it looks like to be a fighter. To conquer the impossible, and trust in the unseen. God met me every day in that Pod. If you've never seen a miracle, then you need to meet Adaline Grace. The light that shines through her eyes will melt any icy heart. Bringing her home was the best, yet scariest day. I couldn't wait to start our lives together, but man do those NICU nights haunt you. My anxiety has definitely been enhanced since becoming a mom. But I'm learning to trust in God in all forms of life. To be anxious for nothing, but with prayer and supplications let my request be known to God. He is her Heavenly Father. He loves her more than I do. I am lucky enough to be her earthly parent. She is a beacon of light in our lives. A true angel. Our home is full. Complete.

ASD

Atrial Septal Defect- A birth defect that causes a hole in the wall between the heart's upper chambers (atria).
We didn't find out until Adaline was 8 months old that she was born with a hole in her heart. I had received information that her EKG was clear and had no health issues. Usually holes that are discovered by murmurs require some sort of surgery. Thanks to Adalines Army keeping her lifted up in prayer, the hole showed up too small on the EKG to require surgery. And then again showing it had closed on its own. All Glory to God!

GI Check up

Adaline has been having a hard time digesting any food. Maybe due to lack of muscle tone in her intestines. GI Apt is Wednesday Feb, 15th at 10 am

Leukemia Screening

People with T21 are more likely to get Leukemia. We will do yearly screenings to make sure we are on top of anything that shows up. Always keep Adaline in your prayers for overall health.
